| I have over 12 years experience in healthcare. Most of my experience has been on the hospital side but I also have had physician practice management experience as well. All of my experience is in information technology. Below you will see the healthcare experience I have had and some projects I have worked on during that time.
Look at the Technology Page to see the software and hardware systems I have worked with in the past
Projects
- Implemented and EMR system for Volunteers of America of Florida. The project was implemented across the state to over 30 locations to over 200 employees. The project included all aspects of the implementation from analysis of the change management process that needed to be followed to implement the system one location at a time and allow the other locations to continue to operate on the older process. Extensive training and planning went into the successful implementing over and 18 month project.
- Researched, selected, project managed and implemented a new phone system that would allowed for a world class phone support from any of our offices or remote employees. This system was required to support new business where service level agreements stipulated this kind of functionality. Without this we could not have grown from 50 employees in one location as a startup company to a public company of over 500 employee’s located in three countries and 5 offices.
- Managed the migration of a mainframe application to a PC system that was more flexible and was more modern looking and more user friendly to the end users/clients. This was a claims processing system that I worked on while with CSC Healthcare in a contract role.
Assignments
- Director of Level 2 support where I managed all the upgrades of the PACS systems for our mostly large hospital and radiology clients.
- High availability systems required all the upgrades to be done in maintenance windows. When possible upgrades were done without any down time to maintain the 99.9% uptime that was required for most level of service agreements.
- Space was monitored daily for all customers systems and when space fell below 60 days and upgrade plan would be initiated and completed before there was a space shortage that caused down time.
- Designed and managed the implementation of new automated phone system to route calls the the correct subject mater expert (SME)
- Director of IT department
- Created IT department from ground up
- Created all IT policies and procedures using best practice
- Created the first project office for the company
- Implemented first security systems and firewalls for the organization which grew to three countries and 5 main offices as well as over 40 remote employees.
- Implemented an outsourced security system that logged all traffic that accessed out client sites for HIPAA compliance.
- Director of Quality Assurance Department
- Create test plans based on test cases
- Project managed the selection and implementation of an automated testing system. WinRunner and LoadRunner were selected and implemented. WinRunner has since been replaced by HP Functional Testing Software.
- Initiated the move towards QA certification
- Hired and trained a new QA manager to take over department
Compliance
- HIPAA compliance officer while at Emageon for a 1 year period until a full time compliance officer was hired. Emageon was a startup company and I was the spearhead to make sure the company was HIPAA compliant in its early days. I attended two HIPAA conferences and updated the policies and procedures to insure compliance. Then I held training classes to make sure everyone in the company was knowledgeable of the HIPAA policies and procedures. One year later we passed an independent HIPAA security audit.
- Participated as a team member to evaluate the SOX compliance for the organization and made several recommendation to integrate the HIPAA and SOX compliance that were then implemented.
- Participated as a team member to review the Joint Commission processes while at Volunteers of America of Florida. Policies and procedure changes where made that allowed for a compliance audit by the Joint Commission where the organization passed.
